Angled start

An angled start is a manoeuvre you may be asked to carry out during your driving test.

You may be asked to pull over on the left, leaving about a cars length from a parked car.

You will then be asked to pull away when it's safe.

Just to contrast & compare, this is what pulling away from the left looks like and we would use our POM routine to do this safely.

Prepare - Observe - Move

When carrying out the angled start, we will also use our POM routine to ensure it is done safely, but there are a few things we need to do different to make it safer:

When pulling away, we need to do this at a slower speed and steer more.

We should put a signal on, there may be road users we cannot see that this will benefit.

As we are turning out at a steep angle, we must carry out another blindspot check, marked in blue in the diagram above.
