Gear selection
Aim: To explore the lower gears to drive in a slow & controlled manner.
Driving at higher speeds in a straight line is relatively easy. Driving at slow speeds in a controlled manner is more difficult to master, so we'll spend plenty of time getting good at this!
We will practise pulling away in 1st gear, moving up to 2nd gear, then back down to 1st.
We’ll explore how slow we can drive in 1st & 2nd gears
We’ll also discuss what gear to use at what speeds.
The gear ratios on our learner car line up very well with 10, 20, 30mph etc.
(These ratios may differ when driving on gradients, we’ll talk about this later)
“Try not to overthink the gears, simply match the gear to your speed”
