Emergency stop

Being able to bring the car to a stop as quickly as possible is an essential skill for any driver. It’s something that we will practice through repetition in a safe and controlled way. You may need to demonstrate this during your driving test.

The signal

Your examiner will brief you on the emergency stop routine and then explain to you the signal that they will give you to stop.

“When I want you to stop, I will raise my hand like this and say “STOP”.

Stopping

Press the foot brake firmly (do not stomp on the brake).

Hold the steering wheel firmly.

Apply the clutch before the engine stalls.

When the car is completely stationary, apply the parking brake.

Put the gear into neutral.

The car is now secure, you can release all foot controls.

Pulling away

We can pull away using our POM routine, including a 6 point check.
