Are you test ready?

It is important that you are 100% ready to pass, before you take the practical driving test.

You’ll be ready to take your test when:

1. You do not need any prompts from your instructor.

2. You do not make any serious or dangerous mistake.

3. You can pass mock driving tests.

4. You have practised ways of managing your nerves.

5. Your driving instructor agrees you’re ready.

If you meet all the requirements above and your instructor agrees you’re ready to take your test, you can now look at booking a test date.

Booking your practical driving test

Visit www.gov.uk/book-driving-test and work through each screen until you are able to see test date availability. STOP!

DO NOT MAKE A BOOKING UNTIL YOU HAVE CONTACTED YOUR INSTRUCTOR FIRST.

Make a note of a preferred test date & time, then message your instructor with the details, they will need to check a few things before you book it:

1. That you will be 100% ready to take the test before that date*

2. That they are available to attend the test with you on that date/time.

3. That the training car is available on that date/time.

Wait for a response and only make the booking if they agree.

*Please note, there may be a significant wait for test availability, booking months in advance may be required. Your instructor will do their best to anticipate when they think you’ll be ready, but be aware that as you get closer to the test date and you are not ready to take the test, your instructor may ask you to reschedule your test date.

If you have reached test standard before your scheduled test date and your instructor agrees, you may be able to search for cancelled test appointments and take the test sooner, you must always check with your instructor before doing this.

Should you disagree with your instructor and feel you are ready to take the driving test, you may take the test independently in your own vehicle providing it meets the DVSA requirements

If you have any questions about booking your driving test, please speak with your instructor.
