The cockpit drill
It’s important that the drivers’ area is set up correctly so that you are comfortable when driving and also to ensure that you can reach all of the controls.
We can use DSSSM routine (Doors, Seat, Steering, Seatbelt, Mirrors), to help us remember, what checks need to be made and adjusted.
Doors - Check all the doors are closed (we also check the gear lever is in neutral and parking brake is on at this point)
Seat - Adjust the seat position, forward & backwards and up & down and also the head restraint position.
Steering Adjust the steering wheel position and seat tilt if needed.
Seat belt - Fasten your seatbelt.
Mirrors - Adjust the interior mirror, try to frame the whole of the rear window. Next adjust the door mirrors, we need to see about 50% road & 50% sky and some of the side of the car.
