Sat nav driving

Part of your independent drive on your driving test may involve following a pre set route on a sat nav.

We will practise satnav driving during your driver training.

Here are a few tips to help when using a sat nav during your test:

Do not fixate on the sat nav screen, glace at it to get your next instruction, then turn your focus back on the road.

Your examiner will clarify any instructions that are unclear, for example, junctions that are close together or confirming a roundabout exit.

You won't receive a fault for taking a wrong turn. The examiner will simply get you back on the route.

Do not trust the speed limit displayed on the screen, your examiner will explain this at the start of your test. Use your own judgement.
