Town driving

Town driving refers to any built up area. This can be a residential area, an industrial estate or a shopping high street. You'll notice an change in your surrounding as you approach a built up area. The traffic may be busier, they may be more pedestrians, more parked cars etc.

To summarise, there are more hazards. As good drivers, it is our role to spot these potential hazards early to we can plan ahead. To allow ourselves more time to spot potential hazards, we can slow down. We also need to think about choosing a safe top speed and ask ourselves "what if".

"What if that pedestrian steps out into the road?"

"What if that bus stops at the bus stop?"

"What if that parked car starts to reverse out?"

"What if  that the traffic light changes to red?"

Think about the environment you are in and what things you'd expect to see there, how are you going to deal with these potential hazards?
