1. Tell me how you’d check that the brakes are working before starting a journey.

"As I pull away, I would test the brakes, they should not feel spongy and the car should not pull to one side."

2. Tell me where you’d find the information for the recommended tyre pressures for this car and how tyre pressures should be checked.

"The tyre pressures for this car are written on the door pillar, I would remove the valve caps and use a reliable pressure gauge and check when the tyres are cold."

3. Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash.

4. Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.

"I would check that each tyre has at least 1.6mm of tread depth across the central three quarters of the tyre and around the whole circumference. There should be no deep cuts or bulges in the tyre wall."

5. Tell me how you’d check that the headlights and tail lights are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.

"The yellow ABS warning light would show on the display panel."

7. Tell me how you’d check the direction indicators are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.

"I would switch on the hazard lights and walk around the car to check."

8. Tell me how you’d check the brake lights are working on this car.

"I would press the brake and look for a reflection for the brake lights or ask someone to help check them."

9. Tell me how you’d check the power-assisted steering is working before starting a journey.

"Before turning on the ignition, I’d apply gentle pressure to one direction of the steering wheel, I’d hold that pressure while starting the engine, the steering wheel should move a freely a little if the power steering is working."

THIS QUESTION WILL REQUIRE A DEMONSTRATION!

“I first need to switch the ignition on”

(Insert the key and turn the ignition 2 clicks, you don’t need to start the engine)

“The dipped beam needs to be on”

“I push the rear fog light switch on left control stalk”. (Press the rear fog switch)

“The fog light symbol will show on the display panel”.

“I would use the rear fog light is visibility was less than 100m”.

Open the bonnet.

The dipstick is to the left centre of the engine bay.

Identify the oil dipstick (you do not need to pull it out)
