"The tyre pressures for this car are written on the door pillar, I would remove the valve caps and use a reliable pressure gauge and check when the tyres are cold."
3. Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash.
"I would adjust the head restraint so centre is level with the tops of my ears."
4. Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.
"I would check that each tyre has at least 1.6mm of tread depth across the central three quarters of the tyre and around the whole circumference. There should be no deep cuts or bulges in the tyre wall."
5. Tell me how you’d check that the headlights and tail lights are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.
"I would switch on the headlights, then walk around checking the front and rear lights are on."
6. Tell me how you’d know if there was a problem with your anti-lock braking system.
"The yellow ABS warning light would show on the display panel."
7. Tell me how you’d check the direction indicators are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.
"I would switch on the hazard lights and walk around the car to check."
8. Tell me how you’d check the brake lights are working on this car.
"I would press the brake and look for a reflection for the brake lights or ask someone to help check them."
9. Tell me how you’d check the power-assisted steering is working before starting a journey.
"Before turning on the ignition, I’d apply gentle pressure to one direction of the steering wheel, I’d hold that pressure while starting the engine, the steering wheel should move a freely a little if the power steering is working."

10. Tell me how you’d switch on the rear fog light(s) and explain when you’d use it/them. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.
“I first need to switch the ignition on”
(Insert the key and turn the ignition 2 clicks, you don’t need to start the engine)
“The dipped beam needs to be on”
“I push the rear fog light switch on left control stalk”. (Press the rear fog switch)
“The fog light symbol will show on the display panel”.
“I would use the rear fog light is visibility was less than 100m”.
(Now switch the fog light off by pushing the foglight switch downwards again, switch the dipped beam off and switch the ignition off)

11. Tell me how you switch your headlight from dipped to main beam and explain how you’d know the main beam is on.
“I first need to switch the ignition on”
(Insert the key and turn the ignition 2 clicks, you don’t need to start the engine)
“The dipped beam needs to be on”
“To switch on the main beam, I push the left stalk away from me” (Switch on the main beam to demonstrate)
“To switch off the main beam, I push the left stalk away from me again”
“The blue main bean light will show on the display panel”
(Now switch the main beam off by pushing it away again, switch the dipped beam off and switch the ignition off)
12. Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient oil.
Open the bonnet.
The dipstick is to the left centre of the engine bay.
Identify the oil dipstick (you do not need to pull it out)
“I would pull out the oil dipstick and check the oil is between the minimum and maximum markers.”
13. Open the bonnet and tell me how you’d check that the engine has sufficient engine coolant.
Open the bonnet.
The coolant tank is to the front right of the engine bay.
Identify the Minimum and maximum markers on the side of the coolant reservoir and explain that you should check this when the engine is cold.
