Nuffield Road slip

One of the routes leading away from Poole test centre take you to a quirky slip road which can be challenging for new drivers.

The approach road (Nuffield Road) bends sharply to the left and (after crossing a cycle route) you are faced with a mini slip road....for the slip road!

When looking to the right to assess the oncoming traffic, it can be difficult to tell which traffic is on the slip road and which is on the carriageway.

When this is realised, choosing a suitable gap can be difficult, as the traffic on the slip road is speeding up to join the carriageway.

The view below shows the approach road road which bends to the left.

We are following the red people carrier. At this point, we cannot see the slip road traffic or the carriageway traffic.

We need to keep a good lookout for cyclists using the cycle route just as the road starts to bend to the left.

It's not until we get closer to the giveaway line that our view to the right improves.

We can now determine which traffic is on the carriageway and which traffic is on the slip road.

The traffic on the slip road may be gaining speed to join the carriageway, it could be approaching very fast!

We need to choose a suitable gap that doesn't cause any established traffic to slow down.

Once we find that gap, we need to build speed quickly to join the carriageway.
